PuEbLo — In consideration of the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, the Colorado State Fair Board of Authority today voted to modify activities during the 2020 State Fair, scheduled for August 28-September 7.

The Board did determine that a number of State Fair activities will move forward this summer with new guidelines in place. Activities being considered include the Junior Livestock Show and Sale, FFA Heifer Wrangle, Catch-a-Calf, 4-H Horse Show, 4-H Dog Show, 4-H Rocketry, and 4-H Static Exhibits as well as limited food and vendor booths, a limited carnival presence and virtual competitive exhibits. More information and details about activities taking place will be announced soon.

This is not the first time the Colorado State Fair has been modified due to extraordinary circumstances. In 1917, the State Fairground property was used as “Camp Carlson,” with the horse stables and open space serving as a training facility for the Army National Guard during World War I. Since April 22, 2020, the grounds have been operating as a drive-through COVID-19 testing site for Pueblo County. The State Fair’s rich history was recently highlighted in an episode of “Colorado Experience” on Rocky Mountain PBS.

“More than anything, the Colorado State Fair exists to serve the people of Colorado and beyond,” said General Man- ager Scott Stoller. “This mission can take on many forms. This year, it means managing smaller groups of people on the fairground property, maintaining social distancing, and providing it for use as a testing site. We are still working hard to honor the work our Colorado 4-H and FFA youth have invested in preparing for this year’s fair.”

Current FAQs related to this summer’s modified State Fair can be found here. Additionally, visit the Colorado State Fair website, Facebook page @colostatefair, or call 719-404-2080 for the latest updates and information.

1. What programs would you like to see? 2. How should we use the theatre?
3. What kind of space helps facilitate those program ideas?

4. What is your big dream for this community resource?

The flooring, paint colors, materials, and other finishes are temporary examples. No decisions have been made on how the theatre should look (retro, modern, chic, etc). After viewing the designs go to fill out the survey and your opinion will be counted!

Pandemic financial assistance for families of kids grades K-12

hUeRFanO — Huerfano Re-1 school district has announced a new program authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) called Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer or P-EBT for short.

This program will provide financial assistance to families of children grades K-12 eligible for free or reduced-price school meals who have lost access to food due to the school closures caused by COVID-19.

The financial assistance will be distributed to eligible families on new or existing Colorado EBT cards. The average P-EBT benefit is $5.70/child per day or up to $279 per eligible child, retroactive to when school closed.

Huerfano School District Re-1 participates in the National School Lunch Program under the Community Eligible Provision, which pro- vides free lunches to all students, meaning all Huerfano RE-1 students grades K-12 may be eligible for P-EBT.

If your family is already participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and possesses an EBT card, the P-EBT benefits will automatically be loaded onto your card within the month of June 2020. If your family is not currently enrolled in SNAP benefits, you must complete an application to receive P-EBT.

Receiving these benefits will not affect your immigration or public charge status. All families who are eligible for P-EBT may receive it, regardless of immigration status. P-EBT is a pandemic emergency benefit based on free or reduced-price school meal eligibility, and similar to other benefits that the Department Homeland Security has stated that it is ex- cluded from consideration in public charge. Household information that is used to determine eligibility is protected under both federal and state data privacy practices.

To successfully complete the P-EBT application, you will need your child(ren)’s State Assigned Student ID (SASID) number. Upon approval, an EBT card with the qualifying amount will be mailed to you.

To access the P-EBT application visit: https://www.colorado.gov/cdhs/p-ebt.

For more information about P-EBT, please visit Colorado Department of Human Services’ Frequently Asked Questions https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdhs/pebt. For more info, email pebt2020@state.co.us and a representative will respond.

For more information, contact Tara Burke at tburke@huerfano.k12.co.us or 719-695-0095 to obtain the required SASID information.

The average P-EBT benefit is $5.70/child per day or up to $279 per eligible child, retroactive to when school initially closed.

Huerfano School District Re-1 participates in the National School Lunch Program under the Community Eligible Provision, which pro- vides free lunches to all students, meaning all Huerfano RE-1 students grades K-12 may be eligible for P-EBT.

If your family is already participating in

the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and possesses an EBT card, the P-EBT benefits will automatically be loaded onto your card within the month of June 2020. If your family is not currently enrolled in SNAP benefits, you must complete an application to receive P-EBT.

Receiving these benefits will not affect your immigration or public charge status. All families who are eligible for P-EBT may receive it, regardless of immigration status. P-EBT is a pandemic emergency benefit based on free or reduced-price school meal eligibility, and similar to other benefits that the Department Homeland Security has stated that it is excluded from consideration in public charge. Household information that is used to determine eligibility is protected under both federal and state data privacy practices.

To successfully complete the P-EBT application, you will need your child(ren)’s State Assigned Student ID (SASID) number
Upon approval, an EBT card with the qualifying amount will be mailed to you.

The average P-EBT bene- fit is $5.70/child per day or up to $279 per eligible child, retroactive to when school initially closed.

Huerfano School District Re-1 participates in the National School Lunch Program under the Community Eligible Provision, which pro- vides free lunches to all students, meaning all Huerfano RE-1 students grades K-12 may be eligible for P-EBT.

If your family is not currently enrolled in SNAP benefits, you must complete an application to receive P-EBT.

P- EBT is a pandemic emergency benefit based on free or reduced-price school meal eligibility, and similar to other benefits that the Department Homeland Security has stated that it is excluded from consideration in public charge. Household information that is used to determine eligibility is protected under both federal and state data privacy practices.

To successfully complete the P-EBT application, you will need your child(ren)’s State Assigned Student ID (SASID) number Upon approval, an EBT card with the qualifying amount will be mailed to you.

Ugly Pet Portrait fundraiser

TRINIDAD — Get a one-of-a-kind portrait of your pet! We have some amazingly talented people who volunteer at Noah’s Ark Animal Welfare Association. They help make our day-to- day operations possible. We love our volunteers – they are awesome! Some of our volunteers are pretty good artists… and there are many more who… let’s face it, should probably keep their day jobs when it comes to creating artwork. Nonetheless, this eclectic team is dedicated and they have decided to join together for a fun, unique new fundraiser for Noah’s Ark — introducing the Ugly Pet Portrait Fundraiser.

For just $20, you’ll get an original, one-of-a-kind portrait of your pet, drawn by a “possibly-talented” NAAWA volunteer! Your pet is NOT ugly… but keep in mind that the artwork you get back, well… it may not be Mona Lisa quality, but we can as- sure you that it was made with lots of love! And there is nothing ugly about love!

So set your bar nice and low, and support NAAWA with a gift of $20 today! Just remember to upload a fairly good picture of your pet at the time of order. Please also remember to provide your email address and mailing address so we can send your pet’s portrait to you.

Get your order now because this FUNdraiser ends June 20, 2020! Email: noahsarktrinidad@pb02.ascendbywix.com to request your application.

Stay home, sit back, and enjoy the show – Trinidad hosting a stay-at-home fireworks show for Fourth of July

courtesy Kimberly Schultz TRINIDAD — The annual City of Trinidad fireworks display is scheduled for launch from Central Park on Saturday, July 4 at dusk. The accompanying Independence Day festival hosted by Main Street, Hometown Holidays, and the Trinidad Triggers has been canceled due the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite all the event cancelations, City of Trinidad leadership felt that it was necessary to have the display for our community to celebrate our country’s independence. The location of Central Park provides great visibility for residents to enjoy the show from home. All of the park will be closed for the fireworks fallout boundary. Organizers recommend that citizens watch the display from their homes, as the park will be shut down in its entirety on July 4, to re-open on July 5. No public venues, or events are scheduled.

In the case of excessive wind, rain, or worsening drought conditions by that time, the fireworks show may be canceled.

Mental Health Colorado initiative “In This Together”

DENVER — This is undoubtedly one of the most stressful times imaginable for many. This pandemic drives the message home that our physical health and our mental health are not separate. To combat feelings of loneliness, iso- lation, and stress, and to get through this pandemic with healthier minds, Mental Health Colorado started “In This Together” as a way to connect people with people—and just to chat. People can sign up on Mental Health Colorado’s website and they will receive a friendly, supportive call just for the therapeutic sake of old-fashioned conversation.

In This Together is for everyone—from older adults living alone or people who just recovered from a surgery, to young people living in remote parts of the state or new parents trying to put workable routines in place. When people listen to and support each other, they feel and do better managing their way through challenges and have a better feeling for what it means to be strong and united as a community.

The purpose of In This Together is to provide social connectedness by phone, not to provide mental health services. Those who are more seriously concerned about their own mental health should call the Colorado Crisis Services at 1-844-493-8255 or text “TALK” to 38255.

To sign up for the online service, visit mentalhealthcolorado.org/in-this-together.

Our virtual event is simple. Register for free and fundraise for prizes just like a regular walk. On June 20th, you choose your start time, route, and choice of movement.

After your movement of choice, we are asking for you to post your pictures on social media and tag @AutismSocietyColorado and use the hashtag #walkwithautism or email pictures to creative@autismcolorado.org.

So set your bar nice and low, and support NAAWA with a giftof$20today! Just remember to upload a fairly good picture of your pet at the time of order. Please also remember to provide your email address and mailing address so we can send your pet’s portrait to you.

Get your order now because this FUNdraiser ends June 20, 2020! noahsarktrinidad@pb02.ascendbywix.com to request your application.
