4-wheeler fundraiser for animal shelters

TRINIDAD/RATON — Lloyd Rosecrans and his friend H.L. Bowman, have started a small group of avid 4 wheelers who enjoy driving on challenging roads. One road that is a favorite is Co. Rd. 85.5 in Las Animas County. The road is very rough, rock and dirt, one lane and only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. “As a group, we are all animal lovers and the pandemic has really hurt the local animal shelters. We decided last June that we should hold a rally and donate the money raised to the two shelters. We asked for a $20 donation for each vehicle. We are proud to state that 100% of all donations go to the shelters. (We raised $200 in July.)” The route

taken in July, was from Trinidad to Raton. The group is planning on holding this rally twice a year; around the 4th of July, traveling North to South and around Labor Day, traveling South to North.

On Saturday, Sept. 5, 8 a.m. we will begin to assemble at the old Kmart parking lot in Raton, NM. The Group will begin leaving for Sugarite Canyon at 9 a.m.. We will, of course, follow all masking and distance requirements.

We all want to get out of the house and have some safe family fun. This is a very beautiful drive and you will see very rarely seen parts of both Colorado and New Mexico. Basically, you are driving behind Fishers Peak. This is a county road and as such we can not charge anyone to travel on it, however, we request a $20 donation per vehicle for the animal shelters. A map of the route will be provided at the start of the rally. This is a 4 wheel drive road only. For more information call Lloyd at 719-846-2611.

Child care home facilities improvement grant

OUr WOrLD — The majority of Colorado children are cared for in home environments. According to a 2015 report by the U.S. Administration for Children and Families, between 2011 to 2015 the number of licensed family child care homes decreased by 15%. To address the declining number of licensed slots within family child care homes and to improve quality within home-based learning environments, the Buell Foundation granted funds to the Early Childhood Council Leadership Alliance (ECCLA) to provide facility improvement funding to family child care homes. This opportunity is intended to help family child care homes start up, expand, or maintain consistent operations, increase capacity and reduce the number of family child care homes closing their doors due to financial restrictions.

The funding priorities for the Family Child Care Home Facilities Improvement Grant include: 1) statewide geographic distribution with 50 percent of funding provided outside the Denver Metro area, 2) addressing unmet service gaps, and 3) increasing capacity and access to family child care home pro- grams. In addition, priority will be given to applicants that serve vulnerable families and children.

Applications for the second round of funding are due by Friday, August 28, 2020. Receipt of your application will be confirmed by email. Due to COVID-19, ECCLA requires that completed applications be emailed to shannon@ecclacolorado.org. Please do not fax or mail your application. When your application is received a confirmation email will be sent to you. If you previously submitted an application and have not received a confirmation, please contact shannon@ecclacolorado.org.

If you are needing assistance please reach out to us. You will find more information here: https://ecclacolorado.org/fcchgrant/

4-wheeler drive fundraiser for animal shelters

(We raised $200 in July.)” The route taken in July, was from Trinidad to Raton.

Administration for Children and Families, between 2011 to 2015 the number of licensed family child care homes de- creased by 15%.

Colorado State Fair – COVID-19

PUEBLO — In consideration of the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, the Colorado State Fair Board of Authority today voted to modify activities during the 2020 State Fair, scheduled for August 28-September 7.

The Board did determine that a number of State Fair activities will move forward this summer with new guidelines in place. Activities being considered include the Junior Livestock Show and Sale, FFA Heifer Wrangle, Catch-a-Calf, 4-H Horse Show, 4-H Dog Show, 4-H Rocketry, and 4-H Static Exhibits as well as limited food and vendor booths, a limited carnival presence and virtual competitive exhibits. More information and details about activities taking place will be announced soon.

This is not the first time the Colorado State Fair has been modified due to extraordinary circumstances. In 1917, the State Fairground property was used as “Camp Carlson,” with the horse stables and open space serving as a training facility for the Army National Guard during World War I. Since April 22, 2020, the grounds have been operating as a drive-through COVID-19 testing site for Pueblo County. The State Fair’s rich history was recently highlighted in an episode of “Colorado Experience” on Rocky Mountain PBS.

“More than anything, the Colorado State Fair exists to serve the people of Colorado and beyond,” said General Man- ager Scott Stoller. “This mission can take on many forms. This year, it means managing smaller groups of people on the fair- ground property, maintaining social distancing, and providing it for use as a testing site. Colorado State Fair – COVID-19 modifications

This year, it means managing smaller groups of people on the fairground property, maintaining social distancing, and providing it for use as a testing site. We are still working hard to honor the work our Colorado 4-H and FFA youth have invested in preparing for this year’s fair.”

Current FAQs related to this summer’s modified State Fair can be found here. Additionally, visit the Colorado State Fair website, Facebook page @colostatefair, or call 719-404-2080 for the latest updates and information.
