World Journal subscription, ad rates to increase

by Brian Orr

Well folks, the World Journal prices are going to be going up in 2024.
We can hear the collective groaning across Our World; paying more is not fun- we understand, but our costs of doing business have gone up.  Many of our prices have not changed in years — our newsstand price has been the same since 2018.
As our regular readers know, we’ve had to change printers, and are now printing in Santa Fe, NM.  They are great folks, and the paper looks better than ever, but printing is costing us more.
And mailing. Oy vey.  Prices at t

The post office have gone up and up, and are scheduled to go up another 7.9% in January.  Between increased printing and postage expenses, we are now making a whopping three pennies a paper.  Ouch.

Just the facts, ma’am.
We are now the only independent, family owned newspaper on the I-25 corridor from Montana to Santa Fe.  We are dedicated to reporting the facts on local news and events, without all the drama and rumor mongering of social media. And we have been awarded the title of best newspaper in Colorado in our class for the last three years in a row.

We are also passionate about Our World, and work tirelessly to help our communities prosper.

What’s the damage?
In order to continue providing a service we believe is critically important, we’ve got to be able to afford keeping our doors open. So; our per copy price will be going up from $1 an issue to $1.50 an issue.

In line with that increase, we’ll be increasing our annual subscription rate to $80 a year (starting January 1) and digital subscriptions will be $50. We’ll also be offering a subscription bundle of both flavors for only $110.

These increases will allow us to keep our doors open and staff paid, and to invest in upgrading our website.  We are taking steps now to revamp our digital home to something truly world-class, and that doesn’t come cheap.  This is a months-long process, so around January of 2024, we’ll be looking great.

For advertisers, we’ll be spreading the joy your way as well.  Obituaries and in memoriam announcements will be going up (depending on size) and classifieds will be $15 for the first 35 words, and 35¢ a word thereafter.

For the wonderful folks who want display advertising, we’re simplifying the process by standardizing ad sizes to familiar shapes, such as ‘business card’ size, ‘Post-It note’, ‘cell phone’, and ‘sheet-of-paper’, as well as the usual eighth page, quarter-page, half and full page ad sizes.  We have other sizes as well, and can of course still create custom sizes for your needs.  Call your advertising rep, and they’ll happily tell you all about them (call our general number at 719-738-1415 and we’ll get you in touch with which rep you’ll need.)

Last but not least, the cost for placing legals will be going up. Contact our legals guy Eric at legals.hwj@gmail to find out how this will affect your city, county or improvement district.

We greatly appreciate your support to help us to continue representing Our World.  We would be nothing without you.
