We’re not colorful people

WALSENBURG-  As we celebrate one year of publishing the Huerfano Journal, we wanted to tell people who might not have seen our first couple of issues why we are a black and white newspaper.

We pride ourselves on being the local newspaper, and we try and support local businesses as much as possible.  Well, there are no local newspaper printers in the county, so we wanted to keep our printing as close as possible.  We decided to print with our friend Paula Murphy, who owns a printing press in Raton, NM.  She has a small, family-owned shop, where she prints several other local newspapers.

For the first couple of months, we printed with color on our front and back pages, but the registration of the color plates tended to drift out of true- to a point where people would have four eyes and two mouths.

We wanted to tighten up our printing, but did not want to find a printer farther away, so we chose to eliminate the color plates on the printing press and just stay with black- no registration problems there.

So, no, we don’t have bright color graphics, but we’re hoping you’re reading this newspaper for it’s content, not it’s bling.  If you’d like to see color photos, go to our website at www.huerfanojournal.com, where we update each week’s news every Friday, or if it’s a big breaking story, as often as needed.  We like to think we’re like that old joke about newspapers- we’re black and white and read all over.
