FNB Open House

OUR WORLD— On Friday, Dec. 1, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. come to The First National Bank in Trinidad, Walsenburg, and the Loan Production Office in Raton for their open house. This is also the time to pick up the their very popular 2024 calendar. The 2024 calendar is distributed as a free gift to the community while supplies last and features classic artwork published by The Saturday Evening Post.

SPLD and GubGub’s Presents the Get Gub’s program

WALSENBURG— Hey kids! Reading is fun and tasty too! You can pick up a punch card from either the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg or from GubGub’s Pizza and Ice Cream. Sassy Stitchers at SPLD

WALSENBURG— Experienced and novice stitchers alike are invited. Come join this fun-loving and creative bunch of Sassy Stitchers every Thursday, 2 – 4 p.m. at the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg.

Eagles Parade of Lights party

WALSENBURG— The Eagles Auxillary at 614 Main Street, Walsenburg will be open before and after the parade of lights on Friday, Nov. 24. The Ladies Aux will have a grab bag table full of goodies. Food and hot chocolate will be available for purchase. There will also be a special treat for the children, Santa Claus will be handing out candy and posing for photos. Come out and enjoy this wonderful community event with us.
Vendors also wanted, tables can be rented for $15 each, if interested in a booth call 719-738-2861 or 719-738-3116 to reserve a space.

Parade of Lights

WALSENBURG— On Friday, Nov. 24, 6:30 p.m. with be the annual Parade of Lights on Main Street Walsenburg. Rain, snow and wind, the parade will go on.

Small business Saturdays at MoF

WALSENBURG— Visit the Museum of Friends, 600 Main Street, Walsenburg on both Saturdays, Nov. 25th and Dec. 2nd, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. for the annual Marketplace of Ideas featuring local artists and vendors! Ring in the holiday cheer with hot apple cider, hot chocolate, cookies and other homemade goodies! Take photos with Santa from noon to 2 p.m.

Wreath Making

LA VETA— Join us on Saturday, Nov. 25, 1 – 4 p.m. and make a fresh wreath (or swag) to help decorate the town of La Veta for the holidays or make one for your own home! All materials provided, but you can bring you own decorations! Please bring hand pruners and gloves. Free, but space is limited. Must RSVP to SusanLaVetaCreative@gmail.com. Facilitated by Creative Anjillee Schwarz. Please consider a small monetary gift to the LVCD to support this community workshop. Located at the La Veta School of the Arts.

Water Conservancy District Meeting

WALSENBURG—The monthly board meeting of the Huerfano County Water Conservancy District will be held at the Walsenburg Housing Authority activity room, 220 Russell St, Walsenburg, on Monday, Nov. 27, at 6 p.m. The draft agenda for the meeting will be available on the district’s website www.hcwcd.net .

Huerfano County Fair Board

HUERFANO—The Huerfano County 4-H Fair Board has 4 seats open and will have elections at it’s regular meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds in La Veta.  If you are interested in volunteering your time and serving on the board, please join us. SPLD presents Teen Pizza

WALSENBURG— Every Wednesday, from 4 – 6 p.m. join the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg for PIZZA, provided by GubGub’s Pizza and Ice Cream! Teens are welcome to come hang with us after school every Wednesday, no catch, no demands just stop by and check out our library. We have Wii, computers, tablets, games, puzzles, music, friends, laughs and of course BOOKS!

Science Seminars at LVPL

LA VETA— Hunting for Novel Viruses-What will cause the next pandemic, a science seminars at La Veta Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2 p.m. Hunting for Novel Viruses – What Will Cause the Next Pandemic, presented by Mary Anne Nelson, PhD (University of Colorado). Mary Anne Nelson is a Professor Emerita of Biology from the University of New Mexico. She received her Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado, where she studied interactions between viruses and their hosts.

Benefit Beer Release Party

LA VETA— Join La Veta Library at Mountain Merman Brewing Company on Friday, Dec. 1, 4 p.m. for the benefit beer Release Party “Nutty Nutcracker”. This a family friendly event and all proceeds go to benefit the future La Veta Dance Studio. Ugly Christmas sweater contest 4 – 5:30 p.m. Kid and Adult Winners announced at 5:30 p.m. At 6 p.m. they will have holiday music bingo at 6 p.m. Hot chocolate and cider will be  served as well as the Nutty Nutcracker.  Come support the future La Veta Dance Studio!

Third Annual Season of Giving Food Packing

HUERFANO— On Saturday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Spark the Change Colorado’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is hosting our third annual Season of Giving Food Packing event. We will pack 15,000 meals that will then be distributed by Huerfano County food banks. We still need volunteers! Volunteer sign-ups are required. The Traditions Arts and Crafts Fair

WALSENBURG— The Traditions Arts and Crafts Fair will be held again this year at the Walsenburg Mercantile, 408 Russell Avenue on Saturday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. We will have a variety of arts and crafts, great holiday music, Santa, the “Little People’s Store” and a secret workshop space for kiddos to make gift surprises. Annual Holiday Art Walk

An Afternoon of Poetry

LV Library Board

LA VETA— The La Veta Library Board is looking for two new members to help shape the future of award-winning library services in southern Huerfano County. Meetings are once per month and usually last between one and two hours. Board members work with each other and with the Library Director to develop services that meet the interests and needs of our La Veta and Cuchara communities. Terms are for a three year period, beginning January 1, 2024, and Board members must reside in the Library District. Send letters of interest to Library Board Chair, Brad Atchison at Trustee_Brad@lvpl.org or drop off a letter at the Library at 310 S Main in La Veta by Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Photos needed for Smithsonian Exhibit-Crossroads

TRINIDAD— The public’s help is needed to find photos, portraits, sketches, paintings of the last 100 years of Trinidad, Colorado’s Mayors for an upcoming companion event to the Smithsonian Exhibit-Crossroads: A Change in Rural America. Open those photo albums and family keepsake chests and see if you have what we are looking for. Can you help us with the hard-to-find photos/portraits?

Veterans Equine Program

LAS ANIMAS— There is a new Veterans equine program for all area vets. This is an effort to give back peace to those who fought so hard for the rest of us. No equine experience needed. Cup of Joe Peer to Peer Program

TRINIDAD— Every second and forth Thursday of the month at 9 a.m. Veterans are invited to Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center, 127 N. Commercial Street Suite 205 for a fresh cup of coffee. Community Thanksgiving

TRINIDAD—We are pleased to share with you that again this year’s Community Thanksgiving Dinner will have in-person dining, as well as pick-up and delivery options. Continuing our 30-year tradition, dinner will be served on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 23 and all are welcome.
In this time of giving we are grateful for anything you may be able to offer. This can be in-kind donations as well as monetary.
Monetary donations can be given electronically through Zion’s donation portal at https://zionslutheran.tithelysetup2.com/give. Checks made out to Zion’s Lutheran Church and note in the memo line “Thanksgiving” can be mailed or delivered to the church.

Red Baron of the Rockies

TRINIDAD— Arts Council of Trinidad sponsoring “Red Baron of the Rockies” Stop by Gallery Row, 149 E. Main St, Trinidad, to have your child’s picture taken just in time for Christmas in a wonderful wooden airplane with the clouds behind – Friday, Nov. 24, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. $10 supports Arts Council of Trinidad events. For children 5 and under.

Hometown holiday events

TRINIDAD— The Hometown Holidays Trinidad is proud to present the 24th annual Holiday Tree lighting and Parade of Lights. The tree lighting is on Friday, Nov. 24, at 5 p.m., at City Hall. There will be entertainment by Trinidad Music Association and Mount Carmel Youth Orchestra, Santa and elves, and hot cocoa provided by the rotary.
The Parade of Lights is on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 6 p.m., on Main Street, starting at Oak Street, and progressing westerly toward Animas. Branson School Bingo Fundraiser

Local Landscapes in Miniature

TRINIDAD— The Corazon Gallery is delighted to announce an upcoming art exhibit, “Local Landscapes in Miniature “, which will celebrate the natural beauty of our local environment in a small l but impactful format.  The theme, local landscapes, hopes to encourage artists to explore the diverse surroundings of our local region. Artwork Specifications: artists may submit up to 3 pieces in any 2 or 3 dimensional medium.  Artwork must be 12 x 12 inches, including frame.
Delivery of artwork will be the weekend of, Nov. 25, 26, 27 at the Corazon Gallery, 149 E Main St, Trinidad. There is an entry fee of $15 for one piece, three for $30.
There will be an opening reception on Friday, Dec. 1, 5 – 8 p.m. at the Corazon Gallery. The public is welcome and light refreshments will be served. Artwork will be on display from Dec. 1 through Dec. 31.

The Solano’s Stories

TRINIDAD— On Friday, Dec. 1, 5 – 8 p.m. check out the Solano’s Stories at A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art in Trinidad. This exhibition draws from the Solano’s collection of over 300 hats collected over 68 years that tell the life stories of the ranchers and farmers from Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico. This is a Smithsonian Companion event.

A Light in Winter

TRINIDAD— The Trinidad Community Chorale invites you to an evening / afternoon of joyful and hearty song to kick off the Christmas season. We have selected a combination of secular and sacred songs to get you in the spirit of Christmas. These events are free to the public but donations are appreciated and located at Trinidad Community Church, 216 Broom St. There are two opportunities to enjoy this concert, Saturday, Dec. 2, 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m.

Destination Blueprint Trinidad

TRINIDAD— Join the City of Trinidad Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at The Commons at Space to Create for an engaging discussion about the future of tourism in Trinidad and Las Animas County. This community visioning and action planning workshop, supported by the Colorado Tourism Office Destination Blueprint Program is open to individuals who want to help shape the direction of tourism for our community. Cut your own Christmas Tree

TRINIDAD— You’re invited to cut your own Christmas tree at Trinidad Lake State Park as part of our fuel reduction effort around the Piedmont Group Camping Area (on the east side of the dam road – watch for signs). First-come, first-served and only 25 trees available Saturday, Dec. 9, 10 a.m. They will be marked, $35 cash or check. Free holiday refreshments and proceeds go to the Friends of Fishers Peak and Trinidad Lake State Parks.

Tractor Trek

TRINIDAD— Join us on Saturday, Dec. 9, 10 a.m. as we recognize and pay tribute to the generations of farmers and ranchers who have worked tirelessly to help make our communities strong and vital throughout history.
For the first time in recent memory, a parade of agricultural power equipment will pass through downtown Trinidad, showcasing the machinery that has helped shape the region’s development. It’s an opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and even smells of agricultural history!
Following the parade, stay for the Grand Opening of the Smithsonian Exhibition, Crossroads: Change in Rural America at Trinidad Space to Create.

Favorite Book or Book Character Ornament Contest

TRINIDAD— Get ready to spread some literary holiday cheer with our “Favorite Book or Book Character Ornament Contest” hosted by the Trinidad Carnegie Public Library. Show off your creativity, celebrate the joy of reading, and decorate your own unique holiday ornament based on your favorite book or book character. This fun and festive contest is for ages 5-17 and you have the chance to win amazing prizes, thanks to the generous support of the Trinidad Community Foundation. Participants are encouraged to create a holiday ornament inspired by their favorite book or book character. Visit Trinidad Carnegie Public Library during our regular business hours to submit your ornament.

COLFAX

Road Closure- Eagle Tail Road

COLFAX— Road A-10, Eagle Tail Road is closed indefinitely at this time due to the bridge being shut down. The alternative route is to drive to Tenaja and drive around. Please use caution and drive safe.

Festival of Lights

RATON— On Friday, Nov. 24, 5:30 – 8 p.m. join Raton MainStreet’s 2023 Festival of Lights on Historic First Street. Shop downtown merchants and enjoy lighted floats. Young Adults Peer Support Group

RATON— Would you like to learn and share strategies for coping with life’s struggles? Young Adults, ages 18-30 join ZIA’ Youth, 207 Park Ave every Saturday, from 9 – 10 a.m. Join the community of encouragement and Empowerment and begin you weekend on a positive note. There will be free coffee and snacks.

Santa in the Center

RATON— Santa is Coming to Town on Saturday, Nov. 25, 11 a.m. Come and have some fun at the Raton Convention Center. There will be games and activities for the whole family. Beanbag-toss, cupcake walk, ring throw, fish, pond, jumping castle!

Swords and Boards with ZIA Youth

RATON— Every Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at ZIA Youth, join Niko, Alex, and their merry band of Ratonians who transform into Knights, Dwarves, and Swamp Witches for a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. Christmas Bazaar

RATON— This years Christmas Bazaar at Phil Long Ford of Raton in the showroom will be on Saturday, Dec. 2, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Registration fee is $10.00 and all fees will go toward Toys for Tots.
