Coalition Meeting

Sassy Stitchers at SPLD

WALSENBURG— Experienced and novice stitchers alike are invited. Come join this fun-loving and creative bunch of Sassy Stitchers every Thursday, 2 – 4 p.m. at the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg.

First Friday at Honeypot

WALSENBURG— Every first Friday of the month Honeypot Warehouse, 111 W 10th St., Walsenburg  will be hosting a free pilates and yoga combo class. Stay after for snacks, refreshments and a pop-up athletic wear shop. Check out this month’s free class on Friday, Jan. 5, 6:30 p.m.

Water Conservancy District Budget Approval and Meeting

LA VETA— The Huerfano County Water Conservancy District has set a special meeting for 2024 budget review and approval. This meeting will be Monday, Jan. 8, 12 p.m. at the La Veta Municipal Building, 204 South Main Street, La Veta. Other urgent business may be conducted as determined by the board of directors during this special meeting. The draft agenda for the special meeting will be available on the district’s website: www.hcwcd.net .

SPLD presents Family Fun Hour

WALSENBURG— Check out the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. for an hour of family fun.  Join us in making bead key chains for the whole family to work on together.  All supplies are provided.

SPLD presents Teen Pizza

WALSENBURG— Every Wednesday, from 4 – 6 p.m. join the Spanish Peaks Library in Walsenburg for PIZZA, provided by GubGub’s Pizza and Ice Cream! Teens are welcome to come hang with us after school every Wednesday, no catch, no demands just stop by and check out our library. We have Wii, computers, tablets, games, pizza and fun!

American Legion Post 16 meeting

WALSENBURG— The Brian T. Chiquette Post 16 of The American Legion will have their first monthly meeting of 2024 on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 6 p.m. at the Walsenburg Housing Authority Office, 220 Russell Ave. in Walsenburg.  All Veterans are invited and encouraged to attend the meeting. We will be having a Post Everlasting Ceremony for Post 16 members that recently passed away and discussing future activities within Huerfano County.  Network Council Meeting

TRINIDAD— With the goal of bringing together a broad range of collaborative partners to network about upcoming community events and activities,  a Network Council Meeting is hosted every first Thursday of the month from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in the Community Room of the First National Bank Galleria Building.
This coming Thursday, each attendee will have an opportunity to give a brief recap of their upcoming events or activities.  The desired outcome of this exchange is to encourage mutual support of one another’s events and activities, as well as to look for opportunities to collaborate, reduce expenses, share workloads, and to generate excitement and broader community exposure.

Legacies of Western Women

TRINIDAD— More than a Place Colorado, Women, and Land, a Smithsonian Companion Event will be on Friday, Jan. 5, 5 – 8 p.m. at the Trinidad History Museum on the Historic Santa Fe Trail, 120 S. Chestnut. The Center for Colorado Women’s History examines the legacies of Western women, their role, an event your certainly don’t want to miss.

Echos of History – Saving
Trinidad’s past

TRINIDAD— Echos of History – Saving Trinidad’s past is a Film about historic preservation. Come spend a Saturday afternoon with us viewing the premiere screening of Echoes of History; Saving Trinidad’s Past this Saturday, Jan 6, 12 p.m. Grab some snacks at the concession at Tri Peak Theaters and Event Center then sit back to enjoy this feature length film as it explores the sights and sounds of the live event held last June in Trinidad.  We’ll also enjoy local musicians, hear from Texas Poet Laureate, speaker, author and songwriter Karla Morton as Mother Jones, and learn all about local Landmarking efforts. TRINIDAD— The City of Trinidad Urban Forestry Board will hold a free class on winter tree care on Monday, Jan. 8, 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Commons at Space to Create, 218 W. Main Street . The class will be led by UFB board member, Keythur Merchant.

2024 Shades of the Southwest Regional Youth Art Show

RATON— The Trinidad Office of Outdoor Recreation in partnership with the Raton Arts and Humanities Council would like to announce the 2024 Shades of the Southwest Regional Youth Art Show. Submissions for the art show must be delivered to Old Pass Gallery at 145 S. 1st St., Raton no later than 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6.  Art is welcome and encouraged to be submitted prior to the deadline. Art must be matted and framed or there will be automatic deductions in scoring.
The reception and award ceremony will be held at the Old Pass Gallery on Friday, Jan 12th from 4 – 6 p.m.

A Day of Ice Fishing

EAGLE NEST— This is a family-focused Ice Fishing Event on Saturday, Jan. 20, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Eagle Nest Lake State Park.  They will provide the gear, guides, food, and warm drinks. Open Pinewood Derby Race

CIMARRON— Everyone come out and support Pack 68 by entering the open pinewood derby race on Sunday, Jan 21, 5 – 8 p.m. All cars, past and present are welcome to enter! If you were a cub scout and still have your cars, unpack them, dust them off and bring them to the race at Parish Hall!
