TRINIDAD — Trinidad History Museum is pleased to announce that Leigh Ann Elliott has been selected to be the first Creative in Residence at the museum from March to May 2018.  With Trinidad’s emergence as a thriving arts community, Trinidad History Museum is providing a space for artists to create and share their talent with the community.
Elliott is an oil painter who operates a studio in Atlanta, Georgia, where she teaches classes and gives private lessons on the basics of oil painting, composition, mixing, and color value.  Her recent work includes a series of large figurative paintings exploring Greek deities juxtaposing deep space imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope.  She has studied under artists John Horn and Chris DiDomizio.
During her residency, Elliott will offer classes at the museum for teens and adults beginning in oil painting.  She will also offer a class on impressionist color theory, focusing on Claude Monet’s painting pallet.  Other classes will be offered throughout the program.  The small classes will be open to museum members and the general public.  At the end of the residency, Elliott will donate a piece to the collection at Trinidad History Museum.
The community is invited to an open house reception for the artist at 6 pm on Friday, March 2, 2018. There will be free admission and light refreshments that evening and Elliott will be available to talk about her art and the programs she will offer at the museum.
Trinidad History Museum occupies a city block in historic Trinidad, Colorado.  The museum is made up of the Baca House, the Bloom Mansion, the Barglow Building, the Santa Fe Trail Museum, and beautiful community-supported gardens. Museum guests can enjoy tours, a museum store, and community events throughout the year.  Trinidad History Museum is located at 312 E. Main Street in Trinidad.
