Community participation encouraged

TRINIDAD —  Trinidad is working to move forward on several tourism industry projects that emerged from last December’s community planning workshop, held at Trinidad’s Space to Create as part of the Colorado Tourism Office’s Destination Blueprint program.

The projects, focusing on ways to benefit the tourism industry in Trinidad, were identified by 50 participants, representing city and county staff, the chamber of commerce, outdoor recreation organizations, arts and culture organizations, educational institutions, accommodations, retail outlets, and restaurants.

Themes from the discussions included consistent year-round marketing to represent Trinidad’s community values and unique identity, high-quality annual events, and a well-informed and engaged resident and business community.
The city was paired with Beth Wright of Regenerative Resource Partners, a tourism and destination development consulting firm, to develop the community assessment, facilitate the community workshop, and provide 100 hours of consulting.

Wright and DestinationiQ, Trinidad’s advertising and marketing agency, are developing a tourism promotion checklist, a social media toolkit, and new communication procedures.   They will also conduct focus groups and interviews with tourism industry stakeholders in March. Actively involved individuals in the Trinidad tourism industry are invited to participate in these sessions.
