The end of an era

WALSENBURG-  A long-standing and familiar landmark at 801 East Pennsylvania Ave. in Walsenburg is saying goodbye to the community.

Calvary Church, formerly Calvary Baptist Church, will hold its final farewell worship service Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 11:00 am.  At 12:30 pm a complimentary brisket lunch will be served in the fellowship hall.  Members, former members, attendees, and those who have enjoyed the many special events at Calvary are invited to participate in this time of praise, celebration, and memory sharing.  The invitation for the 12:30 meal and celebration is open not only to those who attend the 11:00 am service, but anyone who wishes to drop in after attending other local worship services.

For the past two years the church has been under the capable leadership of two dedicated interim pastors – Rev. Bob Swift (and wife Dorothy) for approximately six months beginning in March 2009, and currently Dr. Charles Goza (and wife Ruth Anne) since September of 2009.  Prior to 2009, the church was pastored for many years by Rev. Alan Tinsley (and wife Pam).

The facilities and material assets of Calvary Church will go into mission status by 2011 under an innovative program coordinated by the Royal Gorge Baptist Association, Calvary Church, and a southern Colorado sponsoring church, to be used toward planting of a new church in the community sometime in the future.
