 West is Champ

LA VETA-  Jim West won the men’s division at the Grandote Peaks Club golf championship held over the Memorial Day weekend.  West shot a 156 gross during the two-day event.  Frieda Lesser won the woman’s division by shooting a 196 gross.  Frank Swaffard was the men’s gross leader with a score of 172.

Forty-two golfers braved the high winds and cold Saturday to participate in this annual tourney.  According to golfer Mike Holvick “You’d hit the ball one way and the wind would carry it the other.  You really had to keep it low.”  The wind contributed to the unusually high scores the first day, but by Sunday, the weather was perfect and the duffers seemed to be in better spirits.
