Calling all athletes

Huerfano County- It is not too late to sign up for the fall junior high and high school sport programs.  If you have an interest and have not yet signed up to play, please contact the schools as soon as possible.  You must also have a current sports physical.  All the teams are looking for anyone willing to be a part of a school team.  If your sport is football, golf, volleyball or cross country and you have team spirit, then call the schools for practice times.  If you want to be a part of  what looks to be an exciting season, call today.

Panthers come out swinging

Walsenburg- John Mall golf Coach, Lee Vigil is looking forward to another exciting season of golf as the Panthers begin league play today at the Hollydot Golf course in Colorado City to participate at the Rye tournament.   Six members comprise the squad, including seniors Greg Bobian, Joe Martinez and Stephen Rodriquez., sophomores, Justin Eccher and Michael Maldonado and freshman Brandon Garcia.  Their next stop will be tomorrow (Friday) in Fowler for the Grizzly Invitational then onto Lamar  on Monday.  

    The Cats will already have played in four tournaments before they open a textbook with the rest of the school when classes begin August 19th.  These six dedicated duffers spent their summer on the links preparing for the season and time will tell if their hard work will pay off.

Redskin Duffers in Action

La Veta-  The Redskins have already begun practice in preparation for the upcoming golf season.  The Skins also have a new coach, Larry Klinke, who has high hopes for the team.  They will travel to La Junta-Swink this Tuesday to participate in their first tournament of the season.  Continue to follow the Journal next week for scores and more information.
