Trinidad Miners undefeated

WESTCLIFFE, TRINIDAD- The Trinidad Miners remain undefeated, extending their record to 4-0 after a double header last Saturday.
They opened the season May 8 with a pair of wins over Custer County 7-5 and 20-4 in a 4 inning game. Last weekend, the hitting and scoring spree continued as the Miners defeated Del Norte 15-4  in the first game.  The Miners opened slow in the first two innings but exploded in the third for 15 runs in the next three innings.  The mercy rule kicked in in the seventh. In their second game, Trinidad won 14-3 in five.  Elijah Crosson was named the player of the game.

La Veta Red Hawks split

 LA VETA- The La Veta Red Hawks split a double header against Manzanola in what could be described a wild afternoon.  La Veta opened strong with a decisive 29-4 routing over the Bobcats in a game lasting two innings.  The Red Hawks scored 10 points in the first and 19 in the second.  In two innings, La Veta had 39 plate appearances and 14 hits.  Sam Montalbano was on the mound, striking out five batters.  In game two, Manzanola won 10-4, holding La Veta to only five hits.

 TRACK-
LA JUNTA- The Hoehne Lady Farmers dominated the field at the La Junta Tiger Relays this past weekend, taking first place with 104.50 points.  The Lady Farmers claimed first in several events including the 100 meter hurdles when Ronnie San Roman won with a time of 19.36.
The Lady Farmers also placed first in the 4X100, 4X200M and 4X400 relays.
For the men, Benjamin Owes took first in the triple jump. at 37’-07.00 feet. The Farmers were the only area school to have first place finishers.
Results for area schools: Kim High School at 12th, La Veta at 14th and John Mall at 15th. Only the top 10 placers are listed.
Women’s Teams
The women placers included:
•  100 meter dash- Kiley Geiser, (Hoehne) 2nd in 13.45 seconds; Laura Montoya (H) 4th (14.19); Kendyl Eddleman (La Veta) 9th in 14.56; and Emmalee Buhrle (Kim) 10th in 14.63.
•  200 meter dash- Buhrle (K) 6th 30.45, Janae Ramos (H) 7th in 30.82.
•  800 meter run- Ava Warner (K) 2nd in 2:46.67 minutes.
•  100 meter hurdles- Ronnie San Roman (H) 1st in 19.36; Navaeh Martinez (H) 2nd in 19.74; Maicy Alverez (John Mall) 5th in 20.31; Mara Salbato (H) 7th in 21.04.
•  300M hurdles- Autumn Gutierrez (H) 2nd in 52.38; San Roman (H) 3rd in 56.82; Martinez (H) 57.96.
•  Long jump- Eddleman (LV) 13’-03.50 feet.
•  Triple jump- Eddleman (LV) 2nd- 31’-05.50 feet; Trinity Martin (H) 5th 29-8.00 feet; Raevyn Odum (K) 26-10.00 feet; Esther Williamson (H) 25-09.50 feet
•  Shot put- Janel Ramos (H)30-07.00 feet
Men’s Teams
The men’s team didn’t fare as well with fewer top 10 placers.  In the team standings, Hoehne placed 10th with 14 points, Kim was 11th with 11 points, John Mall was 14th with four and La Veta was 15th with three.
•  200 Meter Dash- Robert Nakamura (JM) 5th in 25.57; Gabriel Vigil (LV) 6th in 26.72; Cole Hofmeister (K) 7th in 27.07.
•  400 Meter- Hofmeister 5th in 59.51.
