Sonic Bloom to be heard in Huerfano this June

HUERFANO— The 10th annual Sonic Bloom Festival will be held in Huerfano County this year, over the Summer Solstice, from June 18th to the 21st. It will be held on the Bevans Ranch at 732 CR 653, where the Battlemoor festival has been held for the past several years. The festival will feature live bands and electronic dance music, performing artists, art galleries and workshops. The festival could bring anywhere from 3,000 to 6,000 visitors to the county, many of whom will be camping. Permission to camp on nearby property from adjacent landowners is being sought even now. The county commissioners are cautiously upbeat about the festival, noting the potential economic shot in the arm it could bring, but are concerned as to the impact so many people and cars could have on the surrounding neighbors. The organizers are taking pains to try and be a good neighbor, reaching out and inviting nearby locals to attend for free, and to let the ‘bloomers’ know if they have a complaint. A major concern, with so many people coming and going over

several days on Lascar Road, is dust abatement. Other concerns are waste management, security, and wildfire suppression. Tickets can be bought at their Pueblo outlet: Independent Records & Video at 420 West 4th Street. Sonic Bloom promotes itself as a ‘green’ festival, and encourages concert-goers to carpool, recycle, and generally consider what kind of ‘footprint’ they are leaving there. You can find out more from their website, sonicbloomfestival.com.
