Silver Mountain files wind farm application

by Brian Orr

WALSENBURG- The Silver Mountain Wind Farm project, owned by Renewable Energy Systems, Inc. met with County Commissioners last Wednesday, Aug 5, to advance their plan for another wind farm here, and the Commissioners responded by requiring a $40,000 permit fee.

That fee has already been paid, and will just about cover the cost of having their application reviewed by Banks and Gesso, an independent firm.   After the permit has been reviewed and accepted, there will a meeting held for public comment.

Silver Mountain is proposing to build up to 59 wind turbines, mainly  on Travis Crawford’s ranch, which is west of I-25, north of Highway 160, and west of County Road 520.  It is projected to produce up to 150 megawatts of energy, or enough power for 37,000 homes a year.
