Seen and Heard – Nov. 20 2008

River Roundup Chapter of FCE held their November regular meeting on Nov. 14, 2008 at the Community Center preceded by a delicious lunch prepared by the Senior Center.  Hostesses Della Velarde and Eileen Cordova provided a beautiful setting, refreshments and desert.  Eileen presented interesting trivia questions on world facts for roll call.  Members present were: Ana Mae Christophe, Eileen, Lee Corral, Betty Dasko, Lila Houghton, Cora Hribar, Laura Bell Kirscht, Viola Maldonado, Ernestine Martinez, Agnes Pavlick, Pat Sandoval, Della, and Mona Young.  Community Service hours for the group the past month were: Community 176, Church 9, Hospital 16, Recycling 75, Gifts of food 31 @ 24 hrs, Cards sent 77 @ 11 1/2 hrs, Visits to shut-ins & others 13 @ 18 1/2 hrs.

    President, Laura Bell led the group in a prayer, pledge to flag, and the club collect.  The treasurer gave her report.  Secretary′s minutes were accepted as read. A motion by Eileen to have a report of the meeting placed in the Huerfano Journal was seconded by Ana Mae and passed unanimously.  President explained to the group why the meeting place has been changed until the Head Start group moves into their new quarters.  Nominating committee, Lila and Ernestine presented their candidate for treasurer, Eileen and president, Laura Bell. Both were accepted by acclamation.  These persons will be installed during the Jan. 5 Council meeting along with the incoming officers of Council.  December 1st will be the Council meeting to elect their new president and treasurer.  Reporting on the last Council meeting were Laura Bell, Ana Mae, Betty, and Mona. Members are to bring reading books for the Walsenburg students in grades 2-4 to the next Council meeting. Mary Copeland dropped in and explained the purpose of a waiver.  Discussion held on plans and date for Christmas party to be held at the Rambler.  Members are to bring a gift and canned goods and with a motion by Eileen and 2nd by Betty that unanimously passed there will be 3 seniors envelopes picked from the Bank′s Christmas tree. Ana Mae and Viola are to pick up the envelopes from the First National Bank Trinidad Walsenburg Branch Christmas tree on Dec. 3rd.  Absent member Velma Schecter′s change of address was given out. The group decided to attend Gardner′s annual One Room School House Open House and Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 21st.  Next month’s hostesses are Ernestine and Pat.

Huerfano Memorial Hospital Auxiliary met on Mon. Nov. 10, 2008.  Gary Dickey, Adm. CSV Nursing Home introduced Todd Oberhue, the new CEO for SPRHC, who began his position on Nov. 10. He was given a warm welcome to our facility.

    Dickey invited members to the Veterans Day ceremony in the dining room of the CSV Nursing Home on Tues. Nov. 11 at 2 pm.

    Preparations for next year budgets are taking place for the department managers, as well as the Culture Change Training and Physician Recruitments.

    Members of the Auxiliary voted to purchase a walk-on scale for the hospital.  The number of hours for the month of October was 311.

    Further discussion was held regarding the Annual Christmas Bazaar, set for Fri. Dec. 5, 2008, 9 am to 12 pm in the lobby of the hospital.  Members of the facilities as well as the public are welcome to attend.

    Cleo Bellah, Ray Bustos and Pauline Santi were selected for the nominating committee of Election of Officers for the new year.

    The next meeting is set for Dec. 8, 2008 at 2 pm.  New members are welcome.  You may contact the gift shop for further information.

    The Walsenburg Club annual Christmas party will be held Dec. 4, 2008 at the Walsenburg Golf Course. Cocktails will be at 6 pm, with dinner following at 7 pm.  On the menu is a choice of prime rib or baked chicken.  R.S.V.P. to John Zgut at 738-2846 or Dr. Fred Menghini at 738-2111 before Nov. 30, 2008.  Guests are welcome.
