Seen and Heard for August 14, 2008

The Southern Colorado Chapter of the Territorial Daughters will meet at noon on August 16th at "Nanda Ghans Mexican Cantina" 220 South Main Street in La Veta, (719) 742-3100, followed by a tour of Fort Francisco and an opportunity to explore La Veta′s many art galleries.

Norman Griffin, a volunteer for the Wayne Wolf campaign stopped in to the Journal office last week to  help kick off Wolf’s campaign.  Wolf is running for the 3rd Congressional District of Colorado against John Salazar. 

PEO Chapter BZ held a luncheon and style show on August 5th at Tims Art Quilt Studio in La Veta. Members provided the food and the Budget-Finance and social committees served the meals.  Style show models were Laurie Cain, Patti Davis, Michelle Gilchrist, Irene Heikes, Mitze Keairns, LaClaire Skaggs and Terry Warlick. Peggy Hoobler was the commentator and merchants providing the clothes were Armida′s Boutique & Stuff, The Cowboy Connection, Southwest Imports, Valley Winds, Casa De Pajaros, Morgan Adventures, Desert Expressions, The Pine Needle Apparel and Accessories, Karen Kmetz and Grandpa and  Grandma′s This and That.

 

 The Huerfano Memorial Hospital Auxiliary met on Monday August 11, 2008. The number of hours logged for the month of July was 418.

    Gary Dickey, Adm. CSV Nursing Home gave an up date on both facilities.  The process of hiring a replacement for  SPRHC’s CEO position will start with the board reviewing resumes and setting up interviews.

     There will be an offical VA  visit on  September 9 from 8:15 to 9:45 am.  Blackhawk helicopters will land at the facilities, with Adjutant General Michael Edward and Karen Beye Executive Director of Human Services present.

     Physician candidates have begun sending resumes to SPRHC for the replacement of Dr. Paz and Dr. Wilson’s positions.

     The Auxiliary is starting plans for the Annual Christmas Bazaar in December.   New members are always welcomed.

     Members present were, Monica Bustos, Bobbie Cisneros, Bob Armour, Helen Cruz, Sharon Moore, Susan Pineda, Margaret Crump, and Janice Turkovich.
