Ron Ortivez still undefeated

WESTCLIFFE- La Veta’s Ron Ortivez extended his winning streak to 15 after he claimed the 160-pound title at the Custer County Tournament.  This is the fourth tournament championship Ron has claimed and his second title in that weight class.  All of his victories have been by pinfall, which makes him the man to beat.

He will face a tough test over the next three weeks as the team travels to Walsh, Trinidad and the Valley Classic.  These tournaments traditionally set the stage for the upcoming Regional Tournament in mid-February.  If he can stay healthy, look for this senior to do well at the state tournament.  Ron is presently ranked fourth in the Colorado Wrestling Prep polls.

Adam Ortivez had difficulty in Custer County, wrestling in the 130-pound weight class.  Ortivez was forced to move up one weight class due to a technical rule established by CHSAA which governs the way athletes are classed.  Ortivez finished fourth overall.

Eric Griego also finished fourth in the 140-pound weight class.  Three other wrestlers made the trip and failed to advance into the placement rounds.
