Rams advance to state semis; Winter weather mars spring sports
The Cimarron Rams boys basketball team made a strong showing last week in the New Mexico Class A state basketball championship games. Otherwise, what should have been the opening of the spring high school sports season across the region was largely scrubbed due to a storm system whose snow totals were measured in feet, not mere inches.

The 23-7 Cimarron Rams, ranked sixth in the Division A rankings, faced off against the fourth ranked, 25-3 Des Moines Demons on March 13 in the second round of the New Mexico 2024 Nusenda Credit Union Boys Basketball State Championships for Class A. In an upset, the Rams took down the Demons and marched forward into the semifinal rounds of the championships.
In the semifinals, Cimarron squared off against the second seed 22-5 Fort Sumner/House squad on March 14. It was a nailbiter, but Fort Sumner/House was able to squeak past Cimarron by a narrow 66-63 margin.
Boys Baseball
Raton
On March 13, the 0-3 Raton Tigers hosted the 0-1 Tucumcari Rattlers in a non-conference matchup. Raton built a sizable lead in the second inning and never looked back, besting Tucumcari 15-5. The win was a true team effort, with seniors Carson Chatterly, Isaac Garcia, GB Oliver, and juniors Wyatt Berry and Chase Middlebrook earning two runs apiece.

On March 12, the Trinidad Lady Miners started their soccer season on the road with a game against the 0-0 Banning Lewis Academy Lady Stallions. The Lady Stallions ran away with the matchup, besting the Lady Miners 12-0.
