Re-2 hires new basketball coach

by Jennifer Parker

LA VETA- Community members came to the Re-2 board meeting last Tuesday to support the hiring of Wade Kreutzer for the position of high school basketball coach.   His competition was Chuck Pugnetti from Aguilar.  The board agreed to offer the position of head coach to Pugnetti, with Kreutzer as assistant coach.      Kreutzer, who was at the meeting, was also approached about the idea of what it would take to start a rodeo team.  There are about 20 students in La Veta and Walsenburg who are already very interested in joining if the opportunity arises.

Fifth grade teacher, Marie Ortivez, was recognized and thanked for her hard work and dedication.  She was recently honored at CSU in Pueblo as an outstanding teacher and has won this award several times.  She was nominated by one of her students, Rena Trujillo.

Valerie Jackson was accepted as the Jr./Sr. HS Language Arts teacher.

Students recently displayed their art in the community art show.  Next year beginning and advanced art classes will be added.

The Board agreed to wait and hear from GOCO about receiving grants for upcoming school projects before hiring John Manos as the grant writer for the projects.

The next regular school board meeting will be on June 24th at 6:30.
