Re-2 has new board

by Dan Harper

LA VETA- In the Re-2 special board meeting held on Tuesday November 10th in La Veta, new board members Annalee Hicky, Cindy Campbell, and Sabrina Kreutzer were sworn in replacing Sternberg, Miller, and Smith.  The three departing members were honored for their years of service.  The newly seated board then elected its officials.  Sam Law is the new president, with Kenny Schneider as vice president.  Angie Geiser was again appointed to secretary/ treasurer.

The brief agenda was processed quickly and routinely until objections were raised over the nature of the executive session.  It was noted that grant writer selection is not something that should go to executive session, since it is not a personnel matter.  The grant writer slot is bid and awarded as a contract, and thus the selection should happen in open session.  The executive session was dropped from the agenda, and the contract for a grant writer will be revisited in the next board meeting.

In other news, the La Veta school′s bronze eagle sculpture will be unveiled, weather permitting, on Nov. 16 at 1:30 pm.  The next scheduled board meeting is to be held on the same day at 6:30 pm.
