WALSENBURG- The school year is just around the corner and the Huerfano School District is gearing up in what they hope to be a positive year both with the staff and students. The district received a comprehensive appraisal for improvement, which helps the identify their strengths and weaknesses, and shares recommendations for planning for improvement efforts.
The district received a donation ,with great appreciation, from the San Isabel Electric Association for $1,000 to purchase a water heater for the new sports complex. What money remains after the purchase of the water heater would be spent on other items the district feels it is in need of. They also received a grant from the Gates Family Foundation in the amount of $150,000 with great appreciation. The amount that was asked for was $100,000 for a concession stand at the sports complex. Therefore, they will spend the $100,000 and the remaining $50,000 will be spent in the future on other needed projects.
Up for discussion was the house property that is owned by the school district. It has been tabled as to whether or not sign a one- year lease for $350 with the current tenant, or leave the home available for new and in-need staff members as origionally agreed.
