Possible progress on County elevator

by Larry Patrick
WALSENBURG — The Huerfano County Commissioners say that Shindler Elevator Company can fix the elevator at the courthouse for about $2,600. The door jams are apparently the problems and can be replaced or adjusted. The commissioners are hoping the company moves quickly on restoring service.
Eaglenet, which has been putting in fiber optic lines, has had their project put on hold until state and federal officials look at how their work may be unfair competition to private companies. Eaglenet has done a lot of work in Walsenburg and Huerfano County. They receive funding from the federal government, which has brought up protests from private firms.
Lisa Gray appeared before the commissioners wanting to use the Gardner Community Center for music and art workshops for children on Fridays. The commissioners were open to the idea but wanted Gray to provide more information from the Gardner schools on the project.
Deb Lathrop told the commissioners that Uptop Ghost Town on La Veta Pass continues to make improvements to the buildings at their site. They have received designation as a National Historic District.
