Obituary, Marie Pavlick

Marie Pavlick, born on November 9, 1924 in Trinidad, Colorado to parents Tony and Teresa Villa, died on March 17, 2016. Marie is urvived by her two sons Gerald (Cathy) Pavlick, and Peter ( Tracy) Pavlick; her grandchildren Chad (Spela) Pavlick and James Pavlick; her great- grandson, James Marko Pavlick; her brother James (LaVern) Villa, and sister Charlotte Angelo, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Pete Pavlick, and her companion Lloyd Russell. Marie graduated from St Mary High School and began her working career at the Colorado Supply, JC Penny and finally, at Safeway. In 1959 she was one of the group of women who were elected to Walsenburg City Council. This was newsworthy enough that Newsweek Magazine printed a three page story of the women of Walsenburg, their mayor, and city council. Marie developed many friends during her career as a sales clerk. She was a friendly, outgoing person who made you feel comfortable and at ease when you were around her. She was a constant companion to her husband, a homemaker, seamstress, and excellent cook. She was very supportive of her family, her children, and grand-children, encouraging them in their athletic and academic endeavors. She was a mentor to many and could be called upon for advise at any time. After retirement, she spent time with her friends, playing card games, at breakfasts, and attending social events. She traveled to Europe on several occasions, where she visited her father’s relatives. She traveled through Italy, Spain, Portugal, and throughout the United States. Marie’s final years were spent at the Colorado State Veterans Community Living Center in Walsenburg. She could be found navigating the

halls and dining area on foot, walker, and finally, a wheel chair. She was known to have a kind, loving and often feisty spirit. The family wishes to acknowledge and extend heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of the Colorado State Veterans Community Living Center in Walsenburg for their loving care provided to our mother during her stay. We will always remember your dedication to your residents. Services will be held on Monday March 28, 2016 at St. Mary Church, with the Rosary starting at 10:30 am and Mass at 11:00.
