Obituary Manuel L. Martinez

Manuel L. Martinez passed away on August 27, 2015 at the Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center in Walsenburg, CO. Born and raised in Walsenburg, Manuel graduated from Walsenburg High School in 1968. He joined the Army where he served from 1968-1971. He started working for the railroad (Burlington Northern) in May of 1973 and retired after 36 years of service in October of 2009. On June 23, 1973, Manuel married Eleanor Vallejos. They had two children whom he loved very much, and he was the grandfather of “five little angels”. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Joe U. and Susie Martinez. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his son, Brian (Andrea) of Bellvue, NE and daughter, Lisa (Tim) of Pueblo West; grandchildren Jaylee, Christopher, and Raina Ortega of Pueblo West; and Zane Howery and Savannah Martinez of Bellvue, NE; by his siblings, Maxine Maldonado, Rose Kolbe, Marty, Ross, and Joe Martinez; aunts Dora Abila of Walsenburg and Evelyn Cordova of Pueblo; his uncle, Jim Martinez of Pueblo; mother-in-law Eleanor Vallejos; sisters-in-law Evelyn (Jim) Sudar, Louise (Ramon) Vasquez, Frieda and Ruth Vallejos; and brothers-in-law Alvin, Tony, and Ed Vallejos. Services were held on September 2, 2015 at St. Mary Church, with military honors. Officiating was Father Tom Wojcinski, with the assistance of Delphine Ortega. At his request, no viewing; cremation.
