Lane shifts on I-25 by Walsenburg

WALSENBURG- The Colorado Department of Transportation has begun shifting traffic from its temporary configuration in the southbound lanes of Interstate 25 to the northbound lanes.

This shift will include reopening the northbound I-25 on and off ramps and will conclude by 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 with the closure of the southbound I-25 on and off ramps. During the shift, motorists can expect changing conditions while crews move barrier, restripe lanes, and realign traffic.

Once the traffic shift is fully implemented, both northbound and southbound traffic will be in a single lane configuration on northbound I-25 and the southbound I-25 ramps will be closed with detour routes in place for approximately six months while crews remove and replace the southbound I-25 bridge structure. Motorists should expect delays as corridor drivers get used to the new alignment.

Traffic Impacts
Starting today and lasting until 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, crews will shift both directions of traffic from the southbound lanes to the northbound lanes of I-25, reopen both northbound I-25 ramps, and close the southbound on and off ramps
The closure of the southbound I-25 on and off ramps is expected to take place by 6 a.m. on Oct. 13
Please refer to the map for recommended detour routes during the closure of the southbound I-25 on and off ramps at Exit 50
The shift implementation process will include setting a temporary barrier, restriping the lanes, and realigning traffic to the northbound lanes
Motorists can expect changing conditions, lane closures and delays within the project limits during the three-day period
Once implemented, traffic will remain in a single lane alignment in each direction of I-25 in the northbound lanes and both southbound ramps will remain closed
The temporary alignment and ramp closures will be in place 24/7 for approx. six months while crews remove and replace the southbound I-25 bridge structure
Lanes are reduced in width to 12-feet with narrowed shoulders and caution is advised.
A speed limit of 55 mph will be enforced until further notice.
The project limits extend from Mile Point 51 to MP 49 on I-25 in Huerfano County
Motorists can expect delays as corridor drivers get used to the new alignment.
