End season in Santa Fe

RATON — The Raton Lady Tigers advanced in the district tournament with a 56-26 win over The Academy for Technology and the Classics on the evening of February 21 in Tiger Gym.
ATC’s Felicity Sealy dropped in the first two points of the game to start the scoring. while Raton countered by stealing the ball, dropping in the next two points. The game stayed close with a tied ball game at five. Raton finally found their groove and put the stop to any further scoring by ATC in the first quarter, outscoring them 20-5.
The trend continued for the rest of the game with Raton holding ATC to single digit quarters. Coach Michelle Boone played her whole bench throughout the game and spread the scoring out among the players. The only player to score in the double digits was Raton’s Andie Ortega who put in 13 with two three-pointers and went uncharacteristically one of six at the free throw line.
Second quarter was a defensive game with ATC outscoring Raton 6-5.
After halftime, Raton quickly found the groove and did double-digit scoring in both quarters of the half, holding ATC to only seven points for each quarter.
At the final buzzer, Raton marked the win column and advanced to the next round of district tourney play.
ATC’s high point players was Sealy with nine points and one of four free throws. ACT was successful on six of 19 free throw attempts.
Raton’s high point scorers were Ortega at 13 with one of six free throws and two three-pointers; Baylor Walton at nine with two of two free throws.; and Autumn Archuleta with eight and one of five free throws. On free throws, Raton made 10 of 20 attempts.
They traveled to Santa Fe Thursday evening to take on Tierra Encantada, second place in the district standings from Raton on the point spread. Tierra had beaten Raton in Santa Fe 52-35 while Raton had beaten Tierra at Raton 57-53. There, the Lady Tigers ended their season as Tierra Encantada won the game 65-57 with a lopsided third quarter, out scoring Raton 14-4. The free throw line once again made a difference in the game as Tierra went 18 of 38 attempts and Raton went 13 of 24.
Raton’s high point players for the game were Ortega at 18 with six of seven free throws and two three-pointers; and Jadyn Walton at eight with two of two free throws. On free throws, they made 13 of 24 attempts.
Tierra’s high point players were Yasmin Torres at 16 with three of six free throws and three three-pointers; and Brianna Duran at 22 with seven of 12 free throws three three-pointers. Tierra made 18 of 38 free throw attempts.
