La Veta student do well at State Science Fair

Five students and sponsor Pat Keeling from La Veta schools attended the Colorado Science and Engineering Fair held at CSU in Ft. Collins April 9-11.  Students attending were Steven Garcia, Stephaney Sardello, Carlos Nunez, Devon Enke and Casey Campbell.  At the fair, 312 students competed with 162 projects in the Junior Division and 121 projects in the Senior Division.  Pictured are Devon Enke (right), whose project, Mychorizal Symbiosis: Unlocking the Hidden Potential of Soil, won a special award from the Colorado Mycological Society, and Casey Campbell (left), whose project, Phytoremediation of Coalbed Methane Produced Water, won the Air and Waste Management Association Award, the National Geophysical Data Center Award, the Soil and Water Conservation Society Award, The Junior Stockholm Water Prize, and the United States Navy Award.  Casey also won 1st in his division and 2nd Best Junior Division Project.  Pat Keeling won the Professional Association of Colorado Educators Award.                                   Photo by Cindy Campbell
