La Veta Fire District drafts budget

LA VETA- At its meeting Tuesday night, the La Veta Fire Protection District Board reviewed the proposed budget for 2009.  Total expenditures are estimated at $646,200 and revenues of $761,665 include $375,000 in anticipated grants.  The District’s grant writer, Chris Riggs, reported that he has secured $161,821 so far in grants.  He also told the Board that funding for the new firehouse is available.

    The Board voted to purchase a hose tester, 30 reflective vests, 600 feet of fire hose, and a laptop computer for Chief David DeTray.

    The Wahatoya Mesa repeater has been installed and is working well. 

    Eight members of the fire department participated in a presentation at La Veta Elementary School on October 7 in observance of fire prevention week.
