La Veta Board seats uncontested

by Carol Dunn
LA VETA — With Kelly Popejoy and Cindy Combes withdrawing from the race for Town Board this week, the election in La Veta just kicked into low gear, and the write-in candidate affidavit deadline was March 14. At this point, there are only as many candidates for Mayor and Town Board Trustee as there are open positions.
On April 3, Trustees Tracy Webb and Jim Fowler and Mayor Don Keairns will leave the Board. Mayor Pro-tem Larry Klinke recently resigned, and the seat held by Laurie Erwin has been vacant since she resigned to become Town Clerk.
The remaining candidates vying for those open Board positions are David Molyneaux, Ken Sajdak, Bill Stark and Nancy Dick. Jerry Fitzgerald was the only candidate for Mayor.
At its next meeting on March 20, the Board will have the option of cancelling the election and saving the Town the cost of holding the election, which is scheduled for April 3.
