HUERFANO — My name is Jim Chamberlain and I am announcing my intent to run for Huerfano County Sheriff.  I have lived and worked in Huerfano County for 35 years and am a 1988 graduate of La Veta High School. My wife, Shawna (Palmer), is from Cuchara and is the owner/ operator of Sid’s High Country Barbeque and Grill in La Veta.  We have an eight year old daughter named Bryanna.

I have 18 years of law enforcement experience. I started with the La Junta Police Department, worked 13 years with the Walsenburg Police Department where I started as a patrolman and worked my way up through the ranks to the position of Chief of Police. I’m currently the La Veta Deputy Marshal where I have served for the past three years.

I am a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves 310th Security Forces Squadron that specializes in anti-terrorism, combat operations and military law enforcement.  In my 26 year military career, I have deployed numerous times to combat zones in the Middle East after 9/11/2001 for Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Noble Eagle, and Operation Iraqi Freedom to Baghdad in 2004 and to Kirkuk, Iraq in 2009.

Elect me as your sheriff and I promise to focus on eradicating the illegal drug problem, mitigating the rising crime rate, and I will ensure equitable law enforcement coverage throughout the county.
