AARP meeting

WALSENBURG- The AARP meeting will be held Jan. 5, 2009, at 11:30 am at the community center in Walsenburg. Luncheon with meeting will follow.

SCCOG closures

The South Central Council of Government’s main offices in Trinidad and Walsenburg, COG transit in Trinidad and Walsenburg, COG Early Learning Center, Corazon Square kitchen, Harry Sayre kitchen, Meals on Wheels and all outlying nutrition sites will be closed Thurs. Jan. 1, 2009 in observance of New Years Day.  The COG Early Learning Center will also be closed Fri. Jan. 2, 2009.  All other COG offices will be open.

Walsenburg closed

The City of Walsenburg offices will be closed Thurs. Jan. 1 and Fri. Jan. 2 in observance of New Years.

      

Superbowl party

WALSENBURG- The Walsenburg Golf Course is having a superbowl party and silent auction on Feb. 1 from 2 pm to 8 pm.  Domestic beers will be $2 and well drinks $3.  Food will be cold cut sandwiches and snacks. Cover charge is $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Auction items  are anticipated to value well over $5,000. The proceeds will go to purchase a new big screen TV for the club house. Seating is limited to the first 60 people so get your tickets in advance. Tickets are available at the golf course and the Anchor Motel.

                                      

Anthony Sandoval update

WALSENBURG- Last week’s we ran information about Anthony Sandoval of Walsenburg getting diagnosed with A.L.L., a type of treatable leukemia. Here is more information sent to us by the family. 

    “It will take about three years of treatment at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, then he will be 100% healed.  He is already doing so much better. Thank you for your continuing donations in the jars placed around town!  Anthony and his entire family, parents Mike and Barbi Sandoval, Jessica Ortega, grandparents, Leroy Sandoval, Pete and Delphine Ortega, Wayne and Pam Brietweiser, older brother Mikey and younger sisters, Alex, Savannah, and Natalie, and all of his aunts and uncles are grateful for all that you continue to do. For the correct information, contact his dad, Mike Sandoval at 719-738-3188.”

Playgroup resumes

Rachel Martinez and Rebecca Mitchell will be having the Playgroup resume every Tuesday from 9:30 to 11 am, starting January 6, 2009, located at the Family Resource Center on Russell and 7th Street. Please come join us with your newborn to three year old, for an educational playtime and hands-on crafts.
