Hospital re-works strategic plan

by Brian Orr

WALSENBURG  Steve Perkins,  the president of the Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center, presented to the hospital board the “working draft” of a re-vamped strategic plan.  The core principles, “To improve the lives we touch”, and “ICARE- Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence” remain the same.  The board members, which worked with Perkins on the draft, jokingly told him he could assume to have their “tacit approval” on the draft.

Veteran’s Home Administrator Gary Dickey told the board one of his top goals is to stop using agency nurses in the facility- “It’s a cancer,” is how he described their use.  He is looking forward to training CNAs In-House in August, assuming the hospital remains in compliance.

Mike Row, representing the auditing firm of Stockman, Kast, Ryan & Co. gave the board his company’s report.  The audit went well, he said, for their first time here, and the hospital recieved an unqualifed opinion.

As this is a “new” hospital board, elections were held for the various seats.  Dr. David Zehring replaces Ken Schneider as chairman, and David Gnaizda is vice chairman.  Schneider takes the role of secretary, and Bill Hix is now the treasurer.
