Hospital Board news

by Brian Orr

HUERFANO- The Board of the Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center met Monday evening for their monthly revue.  Finance Officer Rick Corradino reported that the Veteran’s Home and the Hospital both lost a lot less money than was projected for January, due to controlling costs and meeting resident goals.

Board President Steve Perkins reported that the clinic had been very busy in January and February dealing with both type A and B influenza, which are burning through the county.  He commented that the SPRHC is having trouble transferring its more acute patients to Pueblo hospitals, which are suffering from a shortage of beds, and even going to Colorado Springs can be tricky.

The two X-Ray rooms are still in the process of being refitted with new equipment, and Perkins informed the Board the hospital will soon need to replace its CT scanner.

Hospital Foundation members Dr. Pat Sternberg and Dr. John Davis came to ask the Board to renew their annual contribution of $2,000, which will be used for grants and education projects.  The Board quickly agreed to continue the funding.
