LA VETA- Friday, February 6th 3:40 pm La Veta- Adam Ortivez, the superstar 103 pound Redskin ranked as the number one wrestler the 2A rankings. After staying a solid #2 behind Jacob Garcia of Rocky Ford, Adam′s performance at the Valley classic last weekend propelled him to the top spot. Also moving up a notch was Steven Velasquez of Center to number 2.
La Veta will be at the Custer County tournament tomorrow. Center is also scheduled to participate but according to Coach Ortivez, Adam will be participate. "He knew that if he had a strong finish at the Valley, he would sit this one out." Velasquez will have to wait until the Regionals next weekend, which will be held in La Veta, to face the best in the state. when they meet up, this will show who will get the number one seed at the State Tournament February 19-21st to be held at the Pepso Center in Denver. The forth-coming matchup will more than likely be played out later. For now, Adam is tops and the rest of his journey will be played out later.
Waylon Cordova of John Mall at 119 pounds has moved up to number 3 and will also participate at Regional action in his quest to return to State.
