Hectic afternoon determine who’s going to Denver

La Veta- Afternoon.

Opening the consolation rounds this afternoon were La Veta’s own Austin Taggart at 112 pounds finished the tournament in 6th place.

La Veta’s Jake Ferrari claimed his first trip to state with a dominating 14-1 victory. He never lost control of the match, but had trouble with the final pin. He claimed 3rd place.

John Mall’s Brian Aguirre was defeated by Jon Duran of Antonito 3-1 in a match that could have gone either way. Aguirre defeated Duran earlier this season and will undoubtedly meet him again at state. Brian finished forth and will make his second trip to the Big Show.

Alex Sample will make his second trip to state after claiming 4th at Regional. He lost by pin fall at 3:31 after trailing 11-4.

Berrie Archuletta took forth place in the tournament but will have to wrestle one more match at 4:30 this afternoon in a ‘wrestle back’. As of now, his status of a state trip in in limbo.

Eric Figueroa took 3rd place and earned a trip to Denver after defeating Joey Gallegos of Antonito. Eric nearly got pinned in the last period, but escaped with his victory.

The Championship matches begin at 5:15

-In what proved to be a furious afternoon, area grapplers claimed their official position at the State wrestling tournament next Thursday through Saturday.
