by David J. Vandermeulen

LAS ANIMAS —  The Mary John Goree Las Animas County Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the four initial winners of the Mary John Goree Las Animas County Scholarship for 2023-2024:

Brock Doherty, Branson High School

Chrisily Furia, Hoehne High School

Bryan Williams, Hoehne High School

Kylie Wilson, Trinidad High School

According to Foundation president, David J. Vandermeulen, “Brock, Bryan, Chrisily, and Kylie were chosen from a pool of highly qualified applicants for their excellence inside and outside of the classroom. The Foundation believes that they will continue to set and meet lofty goals for themselves at the institutions of higher education they choose to attend.” The Foundation will finalize the class after May 2, which is the deadline for the initial winners to accept or decline the Foundation’s offer of a scholarship.

The Mary John Goree Las Animas County Scholarship offers Las Animas County residents a guaranteed minimum award that will meet or exceed full tuition and fees and can be used at any four-year college or university in the United States (other than Princeton University, where a separate scholarship is available for Las Animas County residents). Additional information about the Scholarship, including the eligibility requirements, may be obtained by contacting David Vandermeulen at the email address above or visiting the Foundation’s website at www.goreescholarship.org.
