WALSENBURG— The Huerfano County commissioners listened to Joe Malone of Majors Ranch Firewise Community Group on Wednesday morning, as he decribed the group’s effort to mitigate tree growth along County Road 521, to make it less likely the trees could be step-ladder fuel across the road in case of a fire, and to make it an easier escape route for residents. Right after Malone talked with the commissioners, Tom Severance of Black Hawk Emergency Management Committee asked for a letter of support, as his group was looking to continue getting grants for their fire mitigation efforts through the Black Hawk subdivision. The commissioners commented on the important work, and signed the letter.
