Downtown Raton bank building still for sale:

Banking hours restricted in rural Colfax County

by Sharon Niederman
COLFAX —  Raton realtor Pam Seneff, whose Home Associates company is listing InBank’s nearly 50,000 sq. ft. property at 200 South Second St., for  $475,000, is upbeat when discussing a potential sale. “We have two parties very interested,” she says. “There are environmental issues, and I won’t say anything more about that.”

The listing sketches the property as: “Iconic downtown anchor building offered for the first time in recent history! Being sold ‘as is.’ The 4 upper floors formerly 85 hotel rooms have been stripped and are open and ready for build out. Concrete floors separate the various levels also accessed by stairs and vintage elevator. Main floor lobby is currently in banking operation, second floor comprised of grand staircase, large open operations area and separate offices, large board room or lounge with fireplace, break room, and large conference room. All in pristine condition.”

Speculation is that asbestos abatement in the 1928 former Swastika Hotel would require a formidable investment, although hope continues for a potential transformation of downtown should a deep-pocketed investor see merit in re-imagining the building as condos, shops, galleries, and cafes. The property has been on the market approximately six months.

“We value being in Raton and continuing to serve our customers there, whether it be in our current location or an alternative location in Raton,” should the building sell, says Aimee Miller of marketing and communications for InBank.

Since InBank took over from International Bank in 2018, banking hours have been curtailed while fees have been added. For example, hours in Cimarron are Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. and in Springer, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Angel Fire is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., as is Raton.
“We restructured certain accounts in 2000 and 2001 and added a $3 fee for a paper statements, since many customers today prefer electronic statements. There is no monthly fee associated with electronic statements,” Miller says.
“Due to reduced foot traffic and some of the labor challenges that the pandemic presented, we did alter the hours in Springer and Cimarron to more appropriately staff for the volume of transactions in those locations,” says Miller.
ATMs are located in Colfax County at Raton South, Angel Fire, and Cimarron.
