DENVER 8:01 pm – Walsenburg′s Waylon Cordova is one match away from a state championship after his decisive victory over Nick Hammes of Holly in a technical decision, 17-2. Cordova aggressively fought Hammes to claim his first ever chanpionship match.
He will face Alex Pena of Ignacio in a rematch of last week′s Regional meet, in which Cordova defeated Pena. In Pena′s semi final match, he came back with 10 seconds remaining by reversing a hold and taking down Chad Terry of Hayden to advance to the finals.
Cordova, a senior at John Mall High School, has a record of 31-7.
