Community Carol Sing

by Susan Simons

LA VETA- In the bleak midwinter on one of the shortest days of the year, about 65 persons gathered at St. Benedict Episcopal Church in La Veta to sing as many carols as they could in an hour and a half.  It was the kind of celebration where you could sing all the verses, not just the first and last.  This year, a community choir led the singing from the front of the small church, singing many of the carols in parts.  Several solos and two flute solos added artistry to the program.  For the most part, the evening was a rousing and heart lifting singalong framed by an opening prayer for a world filled with peace and love and by cider and cookies. Special thanks to Sarah Lowell, the organist, and Lyn Burns, Vicar of St. Benedict.
