WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR The City of Walsenburg is accepting applications for a full-time Water Treatment Plant Operator.  This is a salaried position.   First review of applications will start on April 22, 2024. Note:  This notice will remain until the position is filled.

Job Description Oversees day-to-day operations related to assuring the water plant meets all established state and federal drinking water requirements;

Monitors and maintains water treatment plant; performs pH and chlorine testing; checks turbidity, water temperature, reporting turbidity chlorine chart recorder assuring they are properly operating; clean and recalibrate; submits state monitoring report for recordings; record turbidity readings and chlorine daily readings on computer spread sheet. Inspects the Chlorinator, Stern-Pac feeder, 8108 feeder; records measurements of chemical use and adds fluoride as needed; drain air filters and check air compressor for leaks. Coordinates with vendor the purchase, delivery and change out of 150 chorine tanks, STERN-PAC tanker delivery, etc. Monitors florid chart recorders, chorine analyzers, 5 raw water turbidimeters and 3 finished water/effluent turbidimeters readings assuring they are properly operating; clean and calibrate as required.

Records the amount of flush cycles and backwash cycles; i.e., the number filter backwashed or flushed within the last 24 hours.Monitors daily gallons per day and monthly flows and record on computer; Performs Fluoride, pH, turbidity and chlorine test results daily and records results.

Performs routine maintenance and repair of various water plant equipment and items. Responds to emergency calls twenty-four hours a day; determines necessary personnel and materials needed to solve the problem. Performs various tests and samples as required by Health Department to monitor inorganics, mp, lead, copper, THM’s, etc. and submits reports as required. Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1.  Education and Experience:

A.  Graduation from high school; plus, two (2) years of specialized training provided through professional workshops, vocational college or in-service;

AND  B.  Five (5) years of experience in a field related to above duties;

OR C.   An equivalent combination of education and experience.

2.  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of water supply and distribution, water treatment systems; construction requirements for water distribution and pumping systems; hazards and precautions associated with trench work and waterline construction; state or federal regulations governing installation and maintenance of water systems; interpersonal communication skills. Ability to analyze water system(s), identify problems and determine optimum solutions; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; enforce related policies, procedures, regulations, and standards without partiality; develop effective working relationships the public.

3. Special Qualifications: Must possess or have the ability to get a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License, (CDL)

class B. Must work towards a Class “A” Water Treatment Operator certification and a Level II Water Distribution Operator certification. May be required to have a Level D, Wastewater Operator certification. Must be willing to work on-call duty and 24-hour standby. Must pass employment drug test. 16-2XU

Navajo Western Water District (NWWD) has an opening for a Part-Time Assistant Water Facility Operator. Under the Supervision and Direction of the Water Facility Operator, The Assistant Water Facility Operator performs specialized operations for NWWD water distribution system including but not limited to: operation and repair of water distribution system, water storage tanks and systems, maintaining wells, controls and associated equipment, meter reading and production of reports for monthly billing,

installation of water meters and water taps, water testing and other duties that may be assigned to maintain the District water system operating efficiently, properly and according to local and State

Regulations. This position will also involve operating and maintaining heavy equipment, i.e., backhoe, other associated equiment. This position’s duties are performed in both inside and outside environments and could be exposed to dust, fumes, heat, cold, confined spaces, and in all weather conditions. This position may be required to work outside of normal posted hours if the Water Facility Operator is absent or if there is a Facility Emergency requiring immediate repair of the Water System. Additionally, there may be On-Call and weekend hours pertaining to the water system. Candidate must be able to produce a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, a current, valid Colorado

Driver’s License in good standing, and must pass required drug and alcohol screening and criminal background check. This is a Part-Time assignment, with normal hours consisting of Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00AM to 1:00PM (15 hours per week) Salary range of $16.00 to $20.00. The rate of pay will be based
