Bruce was born in Hartford, CT to Herman and Jane Hopke. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Air Force. While in the Air Force he completed his bachelor’s degree and some classes towards his master’s degree. His military career took him to California where he retired from March Air Force Base. He began his second career in the aerospace industry as a systems engineer. He and his wife Sharon moved to Colorado where they finished their careers and retired. In 2005, they moved to Walsenburg, built their home, and enjoyed the wildlife and serenity of their lives. Bruce was a member of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, and watching NASCAR and his dog Wyndi. He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, fur-baby Wyndi; one brother, Bud (Anne); two daughters, Kimberly (Mark) and Theanna (Bryan); one son, Timothy (Wendy); three grandchildren, Paden, Thomas, and Grace; and two grand-dogs; also, four nieces and their families.
