Art in the Park, 2009

by Carol Dunn

LA VETA- The 4th of July weekend found La Veta’s Town Park filled with art, crafts, specialty clothing and food.  Hundreds of area residents and holiday visitors were able to enjoy the products of gifted artisans and take a little piece of La Veta home with them.  This year, the organizers moved the food vendors to the north perimeter of the park, leaving the rest of the park a little quieter for relaxed browsing.  Kids played on the playground while parents visited dozens of booths offering such diverse items as framed photographs and prints, jewelry, basketry, art dolls, flavored honey, leather items, herbal soaps, alpaca wool accessories, and smoked turkey legs.

Kudos to Mountain View Baptist Church for providing watermelon slices to parched folks after the parade on Saturday.  There’s nothing quite like cool watermelon on the 4th of July.
