Adam Ortivez in Championship finals

Denver, CO, The Pepsi Center- After a twenty-two year hiatus from the championship finals, the La Veta Redskins will have a representative in the class 2A championship finals as senior Adam Ortivez defeated Dalton Randolph of Dove Creek. Randolph entered the tourney as the number four ranked wrestler by pin in a time of 1:58 seconds, controlling Dalton like a wet rag, never letting go of his fast 2 point takedown. From the onset, Ortivez took control of his opponent and dominated every aspect of the match.
Ortivez will wrestle Jake Milberger for the gold tomorrow night. This will be a rematch of the regional championship where Ortivez took a dominating 11-4 decision. Earlier n the year at the Valley Classic, Ortivez pinned the then number two ranked wrestler for the championship.
Ortivez is participating in his in his forth state tournament and this could be the year he will finally accomplish is goal of a state championship. La Veta has never had a champion crowned, but came close. In 1990, Adam’s coach and father wrestled for the state championship, but finished second in the competition. Three years earlier, Bruce Denton who is now the coach at Swink wrestled in the finals as a Redskin and finished second. Last year, Adam lost his semi final match and ultimately placed third.
