Bluegrass Primer, part 2

WALSENBURG- Bluegrass music, performed and enjoyed worldwide, is coming soon to Walsenburg, starting May 9.

The music has its roots in the British Isle, combined with African and American gospel music.

After World War II, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs helped to introduce Bluegrass to mainstream America, writing one the most famous pieces, “Foggy Mountain Breakdown.”  The Bluegrass sound has been featured on many soundtracks, such as the Beverly Hillbillies, Bonnie and Clyde, and O Brother, Where Art Thou?

With the increased availability of traditional music recording, and with national indoor and outdoor Bluegrass festivals held everywhere, this once obscure music style is attracting wider audiences.
