Shell donates $25,000 for Huerfano firefighting efforts

WALSENBURG — Shell officials met with Huerfano County commissioners and fire officials on Tuesday and presented a $25,000 check. The funds will be used to purchase new All Terrain Vehicles (ATV’s), personal protective gear, and pay for additional training for firefighters to get their Red Cards. “Overall, this was something we just really wanted to help with,” said Shell spokeswoman Kate Roberts. In other emergency-related news, Sherry Mann of the ambulance service announced they has hired two additional Basic EMTs. The architectural design sketch for the new ambulance barn (the old Ludvik building on Main St in Walsenburg) should be in the commissioners’ hands by today. Renovations to convert the building to ambulance work will cost around $160,000 and include six dorm rooms and an extensive facelift to the exterior.
