Honoring Juanita Maes

REDWING —  Juanita Maes of Redwing recently had a monumental week.  This amazing lady has lived her entire life in Huerfano County and celebrated her 100th birthday on April 21st, and then on April 25th she was recognized and honored at the Huerfano County Commissioners meeting as the monthly Honored Elder.  Friends and relatives from around the country gathered to pay tribute.  Juanita is a perfect example of the many elders in our county that have made quiet differences yet lived a simple life. Juanita displayed a positive outlook and a strong faith to see her through challenges. She was always willing to offer a meal or a bed to spend the night to those in need. Juanita is a wonderful historian of family as well as community events and her memory is amazing with its details and accuracy. Juanita indeed deserved the Honored Elder recognition.
