Obituary Benjamin “Ben” Martinez

Benjamin “Ben” Martinez U.S. Veteran Ben Martinez, 73, passed away on December 2, 2014 in Denver. He was born and grew up in Walsenburg. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War in which he served as a gunner in the United States Army. After completing his military tour of duty, he returned to Walsenburg. For a short time he worked at Unfug Hardware, then went to work for the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Department; after a year or more he moved to Denver. Ben was an excellent craftsman and an avid sports fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Senon and Sarefina Martinez; by four brothers, William Martinez, Julian Martinez, Christopher Martinez, and David Martinez; and by one sister, Florence Hill. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Martinez of the home, and granddaughter, Alyssa Martinez of Denver; and by two sisters, Lee (Joe) Corral and Eleanor (Jack) Smircich, both of Walsenburg. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Interment with full military honors was on December 10, 2014 at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.
