Della Duran for Huerfano County Commission

by Della Duran
HUERFANO — I’m Della Duran, I am fifth generation from Huerfano County.  I am announcing my intention to run for County Commissioner for District 3 on the Democratic party ticket.  I attended the local schools where I and my family have chosen to stay.  I am married with three grown children and eight grandchildren, whose future along with the other families in our community are very important to me.
I have served the people of Huerfano County as a registered nurse for 30 years, working as an Emergency and Trauma nurse in our local hospital.  I received a nomination for the Colorado Nightingale Nurse award in 2015.  As the former County Coroner, I was certified as a medical legal death investigator for 16 years and served on the Huerfano/Las Animas County Health Department Board of Directors during that time.
In the last twenty years I’ve been in the community as a businesswoman (employing up to 50 people throughout the years) in the service industry, partnered with my husband, Mike Duran, in mobile home transport; where our company transported, and set homes; as well as in the sales industry, owning Up Town Liquors for 10 years.  I am an active member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where I volunteer on a weekly basis.  I am the founder of the 1st Southern Colorado Nurses Honor Guard, providing funerary services for nurses that have passed away.  I am the author of a faith-based book, “Who Opened the Window.”

I learned at a very young age how important family, friends and community are.  I believe in hardwork and dedication, putting my full self into what I believe in.  I believe our county can be stronger, healthier, safer, and more productive and I would be honored for the opportunity to work for you as county commissioner.
