HUERFANO- The Huerfano/Las Animas County Health Department could soon be the the Huerfano County Health Department if Las Animas County goes through with a proposed action to split the bi-county department apart.
The joint board of health directors apparantly have not been getting along, and La Animas believes it could save money by going it alone.
The Huerfano County Commissioners have been in preliminary talks with the Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center about picking up some of the slack, but other aspects of the department would have to contracted out.
The Las Animas Board should make their decision by November 5.
